PRESS RELEASE

GERING, NE – The Western Nebraska Pioneers today announced their 2023 summer schedule, celebrating the team’s sixth year of  play after capturing the Independence League’s 2022 Championship.

The regular season begins Opening Night, presented by Platte Valley Companies, on Tuesday, May 23 at Oregon Trail Park Stadium  in Gering with the first game of a six-game series, with three against the North Platte Plainsmen, followed by three games against  the Colorado Springs Outlaws. The regular season ends July 30 as the Pioneers wrap up a three-game home series scheduled  against the Colorado Lumberjacks. The schedule calls for 35 home games and 20 road games during the 2023 regular season.

“As many people know, we’ll be playing an unaffiliated schedule in 2023, which means new faces and new teams coming to  Western Nebraska this summer,” Pioneers owner Chuck Heeman said. “We took a long look at our travel last season, and how it  affected our players. As we formed up the 2023 season we found ways to have more home games along with fewer and shorter  road trips. We feel this will give better value to our fans and a better playing experience for our players. We are fortunate to have  contracted with teams from throughout the region to make this happen and we look forward to a better experience for everyone  in the Pioneers family this summer.”

Teams from Colorado, Kansas and Idaho fill the season schedule, along with some additional home opponents to be announced in  the coming weeks, and all games are included in all season ticket packages. The Pioneers’ full promotional schedule will be  released during the spring.

The full 2023 schedule is as follows, and can be found at wnpioneers.com.

Tickets for all home games will be available online at wnpioneers.com on March 1, 2023. Full and partial season tickets are  available now, and the Pioneers are taking reservations for party deck nights at the ballpark at this time.  The Pioneers begin their sixth season on May 23.
